Story Behind the Curve
This indicator measures the prevalence of high school students who report that they ever took prescription drugs without a prescription (such as OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, codeine, Adderall, Ritalin, or Xanax) one or more times during their life. High school students reporting prescription drug use in NH has steadily declined from 20.8% in 2011 to 11.5% in 2017. The prevalence in the Upper Valley region is comparable to the state. Misuse of prescription drugs can have serious side effects, create dependence, and cause physical harm.
