Why Is This Important?

Bicycle infrastructure provides many benefits to the region. Environmentally, bicycling reduces reliance on cars and decreases the amount of energy used on transportation. Bike paths also promote community health by providing access to opportunities for recreation and physical activity for residents. Bicycle infrastructure also provides economic benefits due to the large amount of bike tourism during summer months, especially from Canada. The region’s two major bike paths are the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT) and Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail (MVRT)
