In an effort to improve vaccine rates, MCHD continues to work with community partners and provides two onsite immunization clinics per day.
What Works
The best way to prevent Hepatitis A is through vaccination. The vaccine is part of the childhood immunization schedule and is recommended for children to receive their first dose between 12-24 months. A second dose should be given 6 months later. (Adults and older children are eligible to receive the vaccine if they have never been vaccinated.)
Hepatits A is spread through stool (poop) of an infected person and is a serious liver disease caused by the Hepatits A virus. Children can be infected and have no symptoms, but can easily spread it to the adults and other children around them. Symptoms of Hepatitis A include jaundice (yellow skin or eyes), vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue or dark urine.
