Why Is This Important?
It is important to note that Iowa regulations regarding kindergarten readiness assessment have changed somewhat during this period. State regulation encouraged the use of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessment until 2012; school districts using DIBELS comprised 55 – 58% of Iowa entering kindergarten students. For the 2013 school year and beyond, the recommended assessment was the Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST); roughly 95% of Iowa school districts have used FAST since the 2013 school year.
