Data Explanations
Data points reflect the percentage of Nebraska adults 18 and older who reported visiting a dentist or dental clinic within the past year.
Story Behind the Curve
Historic data from BRFSS indicates a decreasing trend in this measure. In 2002, 75% of Nebraskan adults 18 years and older had reported visiting a dentist or dental clinic within the past year, while under 70% had in 2010. See the 2002-2010 data for this measure below.
2010: 69.5%
2008: 71.3%
2006: 72.6%
2005: 72.9%
2004: 75.3%
2002: 75.2%
*Note: BRFSS data from 2011 and later are not comparable to data from 2010 and earlier due to methods changes.
How We Impact
While Nebraska trends in annual adult dental visits appear to be on the decline, national trend in dental visits for individuals of all ages (children, adolescents and adults) are fluctuating. An oral health objective (OH-7) in Healthy People 2020 is to increase the proportion of children, adolescents, and adults used the oral health care system in the past year. Since the baseline measure in 2007 this measure has decreased (see below for the 2007-2012 national level data on this measure).
2012: 42.1%
2011: 41.8%
2010: 42.1%
2009: 43.1%
2008: 42.9%
2007 (baseline): 44.5%
