Story Behind the Curve

Median household income varies by race. Check comparison on the top left corner of the graph to view household income levels for other races.

Why Is This Important?

Median household income is an indicator of the income gap between racial and ethnicgroups and provides insight into income equality.

Note on Methodology

Household income includes income of the householder and all other people 15 years and older in the household, whether or not they are related to the householder. Median income is the point that divides the household income distribution into halves, one-half with income above the median and the other with income below the median. The median is based on the income distribution of all households, including those with no income.

Data may not be available because the number of sample cases is too small. The margin of error associated with median household income by race is high. Because the margin of error is so high these data may not be a reliable source.
