Story Behind the Curve
This is an indication of an upward trend in the number of school age Coventry children living in economic conditions that qualify them to receive Free or Reduced price lunch, based on Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines. We also know that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of SNAP (formerly Food Stamp Recipients in Coventry. In 2007- 196 recipients, 2008-225, 2009-287, 2010-443, 2011-510 and in 2012 there were 550 recipients.
We know that low income/poverty is one risk factor for child maltreatment. The more risk factors a family has the more likely that maltreatment will occur. Risk factors can include:
