Story Behind the Curve

March 2017: A busy quarter, with a large number of media enquiries in the second half of February, received through the joint partnership work with MSD and the Kirby around the release of the Hep C Treatment Newsletter.

December 2016: A quieter quarter, with limited proactive media engagement, and few incoming media enquiries.

September 2016: A busy quarter in terms of media enquiries, especially around NSW Hepatitis Awareness Week, Monday 25 July to Sunday 31 July. All incoming media requests were dealt with within the allocated timeframe.

June 2016: A quiet quarter in terms of media, with the main requests and activity around the PBS listing of Viekira Pak on 1 May. The July-September quarter will be busier, with NSW Hepatitis Awareness Week from Monday 25 July to Sunday 31 July.

March 2016: The 1st quarter saw a range of media requests around the launch of the new DAAs on the PBS on 1 March. While we were able to supply media speakers in a range of circumstances, and supply the DCEO and Board President for interviews, we had to decline some media requests that were either too specific, or because we did not have available media speakers at that time.

December 2015: The 4th quarter of calender year 2015 saw strong collaboration between Hepatitis NSW, Hepatitis Australia and Ethical Strategies in responding to media requests for information about new hepatitis C treatments, including providing stories from people living with hepatitis C and referring to clinicians and other medical experts for further comments.

September 2015: The third quarter of calender year 2015 saw an increased number of incoming media requests, not just around NSW Hepatitis Awareness Week, but also requests generated by Hepatitis Australia in promoting the need for access to new hepatitis C treatments, and especially seeking access to personal narratives.

June 2015: During the second quarter of calendar year 2015 HNSW received less incoming media requests (especially given the relative lack of coverage of hepatitis A compared to the first quarter). We expect there to be significantly more incoming enquiries in the lead-up to/immediately after the PBS listing of new hepatitis C treatment drugs, potentially in the second half fo calendar year 2015.

March 2015: During the first quarter of calendar year 2015 HNSW received an increased number of media requests, especially around the PBAC process and Commonwealth Parliamentary Inquiry, but also during the hepatitis A/frozen berries story during February. All incoming inquiries were responded to within normal timeframes.

Partners

March 2016: Nil update.

December 2015: Ethical Strategies, a consultancy working with Hepatitis Australia on the Time for Action campaign, played a key role during this quarter in coordinating media involvement from both Hepatitis Australia and Hepatitis NSW.

September 2015: The partnership with Hepatitis Australia, in providing personal narratives, and quotes, to help generate media stories in relation to the campaign for new hepatitis C treatments, has been working particularly effectively.

June 2015: Nil update.

March 2015: In 1st quarter of calendar year 2015, there have been increasing number of repeat requests for information, especially from ABC Radio (re Hepatitis A/frozen berries, and PBAC processes).

December 2014: In 1st half of 2014-2015, a number of incoming media inquiries have been result of partnerships with clinicians/academics/others, demonstrating success of long-term co-operation with these groups. In 1st quarter of calendar year 2015, there have been increasing number of repeat requests for information, especially from ABC Radio (re Hepatitis A/frozen berries, and PBAC processes).
