Story Behind the Curve

North Carolina's delivery system consistently achieves good outcomes for participants. NCCHW supports the delivery of these evidence-based programs with fidelity, and thus there are high percentages of completers who do not fall year after year. This data is not reflective of geographical differences that may exist due to staff capacity and other factors. For many performance measures, a good percentage of participants enter the program with high baseline measures (pre), but nevertheless many make improvements through the program. For example, between 2016 and 2019, 70-77 percent of participants entered the program having not fallen in the prior three months and 86-89 percent experienced no falls during the program.

Further, NCCHW conducted a statistical analysis of the data on completers of A Matter of Balance and Tai Chi for Arthritis from 2014-2019. For both programs, there was a statistically significant result in the frequency of falls reported by participants after completing the program.
