Notes on Methodology
- There is no target we are trying to reach, rather we are tracking this measure for awareness, budgetary impact, and to inform decision making.
Story Behind the Curve
This measure is important because it provides awareness of the number of accommodations coming in, any identifiable trends, as well as the potential cost impact to the department.
Staff can submit a request for a reasonable accommodation at any time. These requests are sent directly to the Department of Human Resources (DHR) and reviewed by the Reasonable Accommodation Committee (RAC). If a reasonable accommodation requires a worksite adjustment or any special equipment, DHR will outreach to the Operations Unit to facilitate obtaining on the behalf of the employee. Due to the unpredictable nature of these requests and the cost, we feel tracking them is beneficial to the department.
While we do not normally experience a large volume of requests, since COVID, and more specifically, since we transitioned to working remote, we have not seen any reasonable requests come in.
