Notes on Methodology
The BMI measure is a hybrid HEDIS measure; it requires both administrative claims data and data abstracted during a medical record review. The DVHA completed a medical record review for this measure for the first time in 2016. We did not repeat the MRR process in 2017, but did complete the MRR for this measure again in 2018 and 2019.
The red dashed trend line above is the 50th percentile national benchmark for Medicaid programs. The solid blue trend line is Vermont Medicaid's actual values.
Story Behind the Curve
This measure assesses the percentage of members 18-74 years of age who had an outpatient office visit and had their body mass index (BMI) documented during the measurement year or the year before the measurement year.
Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It is a complex, multifaceted, chronic disease that is affected by environmental, genetic, physiological, metabolic, behavioral and psychological components.
