Notes on Methodology
- The annual reported rate captures activity during the previous calendar year.
- This is a Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) measure. PQA performance measures are grouped into the domains of Adherence, Appropriate Medication Use, Medication Safety, and Medication Therapy management. PQA has two core measure sets focused on opiod prescribing and specialty medications.
- The age range for this measure changed from 19-64 during CY 2015 to 18-64 for CY 2016.
- This measure was added to the adult core set in 2016.
Story Behind the Curve
Rate per 1,000 Medicaid enrollees age 18 and older without cancer who received prescriptions for opioids with a daily dosage greater than 120 mg morphine equivalent dose (MED) for 90 consecutive days or longer.
