Story Behind the Curve

Naloxone (brandname Narcan) is a medication used to counter the effects of opioid drug overdoses. Opioid use and opioid-related deaths have increased across the US, with high rates in both NH and VT. Education, provision, and administration of naloxone can save lives. Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Community Health team trains community members to recognize signs and symptoms of overdose, administer naloxone, and seek additional help.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock hosts ALL Together, a community resource for prevention, treatment, recovery and advocacy of substance misuse and suicide. As part of its strategy to enhance the skills of community members in evidence-based practices in prevention, intervention and recovery, ALL Together conducts free trainings on naloxone administration and provides naloxone kits for those at risk or with a loved one at risk of an overdose.
