Story Behind the Curve

Dartmouth-Hitchcock provides staff support for substance use prevention services in the Upper Valley and Greater Sullivan County regions, with funding from the State of NH Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services as well as SAMHSA's Drug Free Communities program.  A core part of this work is the facilitation of a community based substance use prevention coalition, the AllTogether Coalition.  Community coalitions have been found to be effective approaches to substance use prevention by bringing together multiple parts of communities (police, parents, schools, businesses, faith communities, recreation programs, health systems, etc.) to review community data, take individual and shared actions, measure results, and modifoy plans and activities based on results.

In addition to supporting the work of AllTogether in communities near Lebanon, Dartmouth-Hitchcock provides funding support for similar prevention coalitions in other NH and VT communities where its clinics are located, in a partnership with the NH Charitable Foundation.  These coalitions include:

  • All Together (Upper Valley and Greater Sullivan County, NH), and the PUSH, Mascoma, and Hartford Community Coalitons it supports.
  • Mt Ascutney Prevention Partnership (greater Windsor County, VT)
  • Makin' It Happen Coalition (Manchester, NH)
  • Capital Area Public Health Network (Concord, NH)
  • Greater Nashua Public Health Network (Nashua, NH)
  • Monadnock Voices for Prevention (Keene, NH)
  • Alliance for Community Transformation (Bennington, VT)
