Story Behind the Curve

Since 2016, Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Community Health team has organized regional Recovery Coach Academy trainings for individuals interested in serving as Recovery Coaches in the region.  Recovery Coaching is an approach that uses motivational interviewing and shared personal experience to help individuals affected by substance use disorders engage in and maintain involvement in substance use treatment and recovery services.

Several individuals trained in Recovery Coach Academy trainings have been served as Recovery Coaches, including responding to needs of patients at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and serving as resources within worksites at regional employers. Others use their training to help others learn about the disease concept of substance use disorders, helping to reduce stigma and make it easier fro friends and neighbors to seek the care they need.
