Story Behind the Curve
Starting in summer 2018, Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Community Health team has supported a regional effort to support healthy development of children 0-5 whose development may be challenged by adverse childhood experiences, such as family instability, housing challenges, food insecurity, and parental substance use. As part of this initiative, Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Community Health team and the Dartmouth Pediatric Trauma Interventions team have offered regular trainings to regional early care providers to help them understand the impacts of instability and trauma in young children and to adopt approaches to their work that are 'trauma-informed,' helping them to support the emotional needs of children affected by adverse experiences; develop resiliency; and maintain helathy development.
This work has been generously supported by the NH Charitable Foundation and the Couch Family Foundation.
