FY19/20 Q3: Entrepreneurs are not attending workshops because the series is offered annually and during the quarters that there are no workshop the most recent cohorts are receiving technical assistance

FY19/20 Q2: There is a high retention rate because clients who participate in the BB4HE-Mandela entrepreneurship series are cleints who have shown the highest levels of engagement and have also completed the FTS workshop series or were connected by a previous participant. Those clients who did not complete the series went through another resource pathway from the FT$ project.

Partners

In order to elevate local community entrepreneurship and support the growth of economically secure communities, BBZ was forged a partnership with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), Mandela MarketPlace, and Centro Partners to launch BBZ-Mandela Entrepreneurs: an entrepreneurship development program that provides a foundational understanding of business planning and licensing in a culturally relevant context. 

Mandela Marketplace led the entrepreneurship workshop series with participants who successfully completed the Financial Tools and Solutions workshop series and expressed interest in creating or expanding a business. Mandela used various activities and applications for the successfull implementation of their entrepreneurship workshops. Centro is the primary used to help participants develop their business plan.

What Works

FY18/19 Q1: Entrepreneurs who have shown initiative and met deliverables for the first phase of funding are meeting with the BB4HE staff to talk about next steps and last phase of funding.

- Entrepreneurs are being encouraged to participate in the upcoming BB4HE showcase.

-The current focus of the program is to continue providing support to the most recent cohort.

-Entrepreneurs who express interest in the additional financial coaching meet with Mandela Partners.

 

FY17/18 Q4: The entrepreneurs are recieving techinical assistance from Mandela Partners and BB4HE. Additionally those entrepreneurs who have met the deliverables are accessing the first phase of funding.

-Entrepreneurs are asked to present their business plans and budget to the BB4HE staff for phase 2.

-Once the entrepreneurs meet with the BB4HE staff the supervisor grants them business funding.

-Entrepreneurs are given an extensive follow up survey to build a story and collect data.

 

FY17/18 Q3: The workshop series was successfully implemented twice and during the quarters where it was not being implemented; entrepreneurs were being given technical assistance and resources.

-Entrepreneurs receive techincal assistance from Mandela Partners and BB4HE staff.

-No workshops have been conducted since all deliverables have been met.

-The BB4HE staff checks in with Mandela to confirm details.

 

FY17/18 Q2: The workshop series was successfully implemented and during the quarters where it was not being implemented; entrepreneurs were being given technical assistance and resources.

-Entrepreneurs receive techincal assistance from Mandela Partners and BB4HE staff.

-Phase 1 of funding is granted upon reviewal of business plan, budget and case examination.

-The BB4HE staff checks in with Mandela to confirm viability of proposed business.

 

FY17/18 Q1: The workshop series was successfully implemented and during the quarters where it was not being implemented; entrepreneurs were being given technical assistance and resources.

-Entrepreneurs are participating in the 7-week program.

-During the program and initial meeting with Mandela Partners they are expected to create a business plan, budget and case examination.

-The BB4HE staff checks in with Mandela to coordinate logistics.

 

FY16/17 Q4: The Mandela Entrepreneurship Program details are being finalized and topics are being confirmed.

-The decided topics are: Defining your concept/mission/vision, Business Development,  Business Finances, Business Plan, Foundations of Production, Branding Marketing, and Legal eats cafe.

-The 7-week workshop series will take place in the Public Health Eastmont Mall location.

-Clients are being referred from BB4HE staff and home visiting staff.

Action Plan

All participants who graduated the class developed a business plan where there were asked to reflect and develop various components of their business. Entrepreneurs discussed market analysis, competitive analysis, value proposition, product, balance sheet and income sheet among other activities that are essential to running a successful business. 

Topics included:  Defining your concept/mission/vision, Business Development,  Business Finances, Business Plan, Foundations of Production, Branding Marketing, and Legal eats cafe.

Graduates recieve one-on-one coaching, and if appropriate, access to capital. Additionally graduates recieve resources and refferals to programs and institutions that will support the growth of their business.
