Q3 2020

This quarter demonstrates a continuing upward trend of the number of enquiries to the Infoline from people in prison who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. This increase in numbers is attributed to an intensified engagement with the caller as to how they identify and the subsequent record keeping of the collected data.  

Q2 2020

This quarter has seen an upward trend of the number of enquiries to the Infoline from people in prison who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. For the financial year 2019-20 an average of 44% per month of all callers identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Q1 2020

The number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples ranged from 39% January to 42% in march.  Similarly, this is consistently above the target of 30% due to the high number of calls received from prison settings and the over representation of Indigenous Australians in gaol. 

Q4 2019

The number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples ranged from 40% November to 47% in October.  Similarly, this is consistently above the target of 30% due to the high number of calls received from prison settings and the over representation of Indigenous Australians in gaol. 

Q3 2019

The number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples ranged from 45% August to 62% in September.  Similarly, this is consistently above the target of 30% due to the high number of calls received from prison settings and the over representation of Indigenous Australians in gaol. 

Q2 2019

Over this quarter the number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people ranged from 48% in June to 65% in April.  This is consistently above the target of 30% as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people remain over represented in custodial settings.  

Q1 2019

During this quarter the number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples range from 53% in March to 67% in February.  This is consistently high and not representative of the Australian population, and is attributed to the disaproportionately high number of Aborginal people in custodial settings.  On average between 60% to 70% of callers to the Infoline from custodial settings identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.  

Q4 2018

During quarter 2, 2018 the number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples range from 46% in December to 59% in November.  This is consistently above the target of 30% of calls received are from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.  These population groups are at higher risk of HCV compared to non-digenous people and are over-represented in custodial settings.  Emphasising the importance of the Hepatitis NSW Infoline service for vulnerable groups of people.   

Q3 2018

During quarter 3, 2018, the number of callers that identified as Aboriginal or Torrres Strait Islander peoples ranged from 48% (August) to 59% (September).  In 2018 there has been a consistent and steady increase in calls from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  This is largely attributable to the increase in callers from prison settings and the over-representation of Aboriginal people in custody.  

Q2 2018 

During quarter 2, 2018, 198 callers identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples - approximately 40% of all callers.  The percentage of callers identifing as Aboriginal is fairly constant each month, representing approximately one third of callers over the period July 2017 to June 2018.  These percentages correlate with the disproportionately higher number of Aboriginal people in correctional centres - in NSW correctional centres 23.9% men and 34.9% women are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.  

Q1 2018

During quarter 1, 2018, 138 callers identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

Q4 2017

An average of 28% of callers asked about their identity were Aboriginal people, while about 60% of callers from prison settings who were asked identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. Given that 2.9% of the NSW population identify as Aboriginal this is a high level of access. However this proportion is inflated by the over-representation of Aboriginal people in prison settings, who access our Infoline through the auto-dial free call service from NSW prisons 

Q3 2017

An average of 30% of all callers this quarter identified as Aboriginal people, while 62% of callers from prison settings identified as Aboriginal.

Q1 2017

The proportion of callers who identify as Aboriginal continues to remain high. Our direct education work in prison settings such as health expo days, links Aboriginal people in custody into the Infoline, and the Hepatitis Information Packs we send out include Aboriginal focused hep C resources.

Q4 2016

There has been a steady increase in callers identifying as Aboriginal, however this reflects the increase in prison callers, amongst whom 30% or more are of Aboriginal background.
