Story Behind the Curve

The first messaging campaign took place from May to August 2016. MICA workers visited 1,204 houses in the neighborhoods served by Rogers and Anson Elementary Schools in Marshalltown. Of the 1,204 homes visited, survey workers spoke with 512 residents, and acquired complete survey responses from 204 residents. (The remaining respondents either opted out of the survey or had no children in the household.) Survey respondents were asked about children in the household, access to health and public services, early education, literacy and home visiting opportunities.

Action Plan

Work is in progress for a second education & messaging campaign, to begin in Autumn 2016. Our emphasis will be on encouraging parents to enroll for and begin using Vroom, a set of early childhood learning tools for parents and their children ages birth to 5.
