What Does This Community Health Indicator Mean?
The Feeding America Map the Meal Gap project child food insecurity rates are determined using data from the 2014 Current Population Survey on children under 18 years old in food insecure households; data from the 2014 American Community Survey on median family incomes for households with children, child poverty rates, home ownership, and race and ethnic demographics among children; and 2014 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on unemployment rates. Together we Can! Healthy Living in Butte County is tracking the percentage of food insecure children (0-18 years) in the Butte County population. By increasing access to nutrient-rich foods, we hope to see this rate decline over time.
