eConsults allows easy communication and consultation between primary care and specialty providers, improving patient experience of care, reducing unneeded waits for specialty appointments, helping to ensure that specialist time is well-used, and allowing more health care to be delivered in primary care settings.  eConsults need to be specifically engineered for each specialty clinic, and D-H has been systematically building these connections, gradually increasing the number of specialties that primary care clinicians can access for consultations. 

This measure indicates the # eConsults that have been completed between Dartmouth-Hitchcock primary care clinicians and specialists in a given year.  Because eConsults are still an emerging technology, we expect this # will grow over time.
