Story Behind the Curve
Students with disabilities who leave the post-secondary public school system in Carroll are not moving into employment or higher education. The majority of the students are transitioning into segregated day programming, away from the communities in which they live. Customized employment seeks to engage these students in their career planning, allowing them to be integrated into their communities and increase the opportunity to work at meaningful employment.
Partners
Partners in this program include Carroll County Public School, DORS, DDA, CCYSB and Change.
What Works
Customized employment is a method of engaging individuals in their own career path by exploring their talents, skills and desires for employment. Individuals are connected to employers based on their abilities rather than working at jobs that have little to no mobility and are not motivating to the individual. In FY 19, CE has begun accepting referrals from the Connecting Youth program and has success connecting all referrals to long-term employment.

Data Discussion
Most referrals in the initial year have come from DORS. Change is continuing to conduct outreach with Carroll County Public Schools and recently begun a new partnership with the Connecting Youth in Carroll program, in order to increase the number of youth referred to the progam. This year CE exceeded it's target goal for the number of referrals.
