Story Behind the Curve
Each student and family involved in the EDMAP program will have an identified goal that will be worked towards to address absenteeism. Goals can include interventions such as: finding adequate transportation, gaining mental health services, participating in health services, working with the school to identify any learning concerns, addressing peer issues, addressing substance use issues, learning that school attendance is a law in the state in which one resides, gaining personal hygiene items, gaining sources of child care, application for County services such as food, housing, and health insurance.
This is not an exhaustive list however is an example of a few of the interventions and goals a child and family can have each month.
January 2016: The process of documenting accomplishment of individualized goals was begun. In this month an example of some of the goals include: communication with a parent/guardian about absenteeism; attendance of an AIM meeting; specific class related goals such as completion of a project or test; accessing resources available in the community; participation in school meetings, etc.
