Story Behind the Curve

Note re: FY20-21: The sharp increase in summer 2021 months* is because the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was opened to all children ages 0-18 due to the pandemic. The only SFSP delivery sites included in this calculation are those which offered summer enrichment programs affiliated with Story County Reads/United Way (Ames-Meeker, Ames Public Library, Boys & Girls Club-Ames & Nevada, Collins-Maxwell Elementary, Ballard Middle, and Nevada-Central Elementary).

* This can be seen more clearly in the   Health HPM 1.2b: # of healthy meals provided through UWSC partner agency programs and services (monthly)

Partners

The UWSC partners whose data is aggregated here include:

  • Heartland Senior Services - Adult Day Center, Commodity Food Boxes, Home-Delivered Meals (all ages), and Congregate Meals
  • YSS - Rosedale Shelter and other residential.

Also included are Summer Food programs county-wide. UWSC and its Hunger Collaboration helped bring these programs to Story County (including with ongoing financial support), and UWSC's Story County Reads collaboration continues this support.

These programs all must adhere to nutritional guidelines, thereby garnering the "healthy" classification.
