Story Behind the Curve

Through education and training law enforcement are now referring every first time offender.  School Resource Officers are making more referrals for first time offenders since youth have returned to school after the covid-19 closure.

The partners that participated this year with the Teen Court Program are:  Law Enforcement and Caroline County Circuit Court.

What Works

Many respondents join Teen Court as jury members after completing their Court ordered sanctions, which is a complete turn-around in these children's lives.  The recidivism rate is low.  

Data Discussion

Referrals were down in the first half of the year, coming out of covid-19 when youth returned to school referrals have increased.  In FY23 referrals are expected to continue to increase.
