For many, having a supportive social network of family and friends helps to provide one with a sense of belonging and can help to increase one's mental and emotional well-being. As a result, by increasing the number of programs that educate individuals on how to offer support and encouragement to a friend or family member who may be suffering from depression, one might increase the likelihood that an individual will seek help when they need it. Likewise, by developing these programs, our community seeks to build a strong sense of community and belonging, which therefore will hopefully help to decrease the number of individuals who feel alone and will help to increase the mental and emotional state of all community residents.
