The Community Services Foundation Disconnected Youth Program did not meet their target for FY 20 regardless of outreach efforts to secure the number of targeted youths to be served. The site staff continued to reach out to participants to check on their welfare and to refer participants to programs and services or job opportunities in the community. In addition, the staff shared resources from Prince George's County with participants in hopes that this will help sustain them.

Unfortunately, the program was converted to a virtual program in mid-March as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic; which made it even more challenging to recruit, enroll and retain participants.  In April, site staff reported that nearly 29% of participants did not reached out to the program.  Staff attempted to reach those missing participants, but were unsuccessful. This factor was caused due to various issues:  some participants’ phone numbers that were on file were disconnected; some participants did not have access to the net; others did not have any tech devices. As a result, Site staff tried to reach individuals who may have known the participants as an outreach effort to reconnect with the program. This factor greatly affected the number of youths who participated in the program sessions.

The site staff continued to reach out to participants to check on their welfare and to refer them to programs and services or job opportunities in the community.  Also, they continued to share resources from Prince George's County with participants in hopes that the youth may connect with other resources to assist them.

The provider did not meet the following measures:

How much: # of Youth enrolled in Life and Leadership

How well: # of youth who completed Job Readiness program at the end of the program

How well: % of youth who completed Job Readiness program at the end of the program

How well: # of youth who completed the Leadership and Self Development Program by the end of the program.

How well: % of youth who completed the Leadership and Self Development Program by the end of the program.

Staff from the Youth Empower Your Future Program faced various challenges which included: youth enrollment, consistency in youth participation and retainment; therefore, affected the number of youth enrolled in the Leadership and Self Development Program, the number and percentage of youth who completed the Job Readiness Program and completed the Leadership and Self Development Program.  The provider was able to recruit a significant amount of youth; unfortunately, the youth who visited the center, acquired assistance on a more short-term basis. This included: assistance in creating or editing their resumes, having access to the computer lab to work on gaining employment, etc.

The provider talked to community members in order to bring awareness about the program and services/ sessions offered but earning community members trust is time consuming.   As a result, the academic providers delayed the sessions until January because of the lack of youth enrolled in all sessions. The provider will pilot various strategies; such as, interviewing youth to identify challenges that are preventing them from participating and completing sessions and try to assist the youth on an individual level
